Designer table lamp made in Bergen Prison
This lamp was shown at Milan Design Week in 2013 and delighted critics and design fans. Created by the design duo Morten & Jonas for Northern Lighting, this charming table lamp design was produced in one of the most unexpected places: a prison in Norway. It is hard to believe that a piece with such quality and original design could be made by inmates in a Norwegian prison. To focus on the prison theme, the lamp was inspired by the story of the "cake with a nail file," in which a mother hides a file in a cake for her imprisoned son to help him escape. The project aims to create meaningful activities for inmates while they are in prison.
Table lamp design that looks like a cake stand
Morten & Jonas are two designers from Norway who work in furniture design and interior design. Both have master's degrees in design from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design in Norway. The design duo has had success working with the Norwegian prison system, where they are currently using design as a tool to develop and strengthen production. With this design, they wanted to create an object with a sense of humor, a beautiful shape and a story that would give the user something to think about and, hopefully, put a smile on their face.
