4 Springs Lane is a modern residence in Rappahannock County, Virginia, designed by Robert M. Gurney, FAIA. The house is set within a forested landscape of about 9.7 hectares, where several possible building sites offered different views toward the Blue Ridge Mountains, fields, and wooded valley.
The final design is composed of several linear volumes placed along the topography. This arrangement frames distant views while giving the house a clear, disciplined relationship to the surrounding land.

The linear plan creates outdoor areas that can be enjoyed throughout the day, from quiet moments by the pool to meals on the lawn. Inside, the living and dining spaces open through large glass walls, bringing the mountain views directly into the home.
