The London design studio EJAL won a competition organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum to design a new jewelry gallery that would house more than 3,500 pieces. The exquisite jewels, from different eras, are arranged in chronological order.

The concept of the new jewelry gallery is simple but highly effective. The gallery extends over two floors, connected by a futuristic spiral staircase. An S-shaped jewelry display visually separates the first floor. Dark walls, extensive glass, and subtle integrated lighting present the collection at its best. The staircase is made of metal, and built-in LED accents give the space a distinctive, monochrome atmosphere.

The jewels are tastefully displayed in the jewelry gallery. The black background is illuminated, and beneath each piece there is a short explanation of its origin. The white text is further lit by halogen lamps. Lighting plays an important role in the design: three types of fixtures were installed to create a pleasant atmosphere for museum visitors. The gallery itself is constructed with dark cement. Reddish-brown wooden wall panels make it feel like one of the museum’s most elegant rooms and recall the Victorian era in which the museum was built.

The London-based architectural firm EJAL had already become known in Europe for original projects. Its experienced interior designers have created several museum spaces, including rooms for the Victoria and Albert Museum, an exhibition on African culture in London, and work connected with Sir John Soane’s Museum. From modern to classic, their concepts continue to inspire creative ideas.
