A wooden house with a courtyard in the middle of the city may sound difficult, but thoughtful architecture can turn even a small plot into a practical modern home.
Wooden house with a courtyard and individual architecture

In Japan, where living space can be very limited, the architects of Arbol faced the challenge of creating a functional home that also protects privacy. Light wood, high fences, and a green inner courtyard create the feeling of a small forest within a dense urban neighborhood.

The house was designed for an older couple who wanted a calm island in the city. Glass walls and sliding doors open the rooms to the courtyard and bring in light. A glass-walled corridor connects the living area with the private rooms and bathrooms, while the interior remains simple and traditionally Japanese in feeling.
