Villa L is a modern house with a flat roof, located near Utrecht in the Netherlands. Powerhouse Company designed the project in close collaboration with RAU for a young family with three children. Set in a garden on a wooded site, the villa is oriented toward the sun and the views. Its interior is simple but elegant, and each floor has a distinct identity while remaining open and bright thanks to large expanses of glass.

The young family wanted a house that was simple yet surprising, open yet specific, minimal yet luxurious. Powerhouse Company translated these contradictions into three clearly different levels, one of them subterranean, each with its own character and function for family life.
The north side and front door
The ground floor is spacious and open. A strip of service rooms contains storage, toilets, and stairs, leaving the living areas luxuriously open. The kitchen and living room are oriented toward the sun and the garden views, while two studies sit on the north side near the entrance. The first-floor rooms are devoted to sleep and privacy. Finished in dark wood and set within a delicate roof garden, each room feels like its own small world with views of the wooded landscape. The curved basement is used for guests, wellness, and storage.

The house incorporates innovative sustainable measures, including hot- and cold-water storage and extensive use of hidden photovoltaic cells. The basement also contains a dedicated area for high-quality energy-saving equipment.
