The interior design firm i29 designed a kitchen that behaves more like furniture than a conventional cooking area. Today, kitchens and living spaces are often interconnected and open, so the designers developed a practical solution: a subtle kitchen hidden in a cabinet with a kitchen island, that almost disappears.
A hidden kitchen cabinet and an almost invisible thin island
The kitchen island is incredibly thin and, viewed from certain angles, appears almost invisible. That was exactly the designers’ goal. The design and decoration are reduced to a minimum, with a worktop only a few centimeters thick that integrates water, cooking and electrical connections. All kitchen appliances and an additional workspace are hidden behind large sliding panels. The kitchen was installed in a Paris apartment, where the design suits the character of the interior. Existing wall profiles were copied exactly onto the solid kitchen cabinet fronts so the volume integrates with the room and becomes almost invisible.
Classic and modern design elements in harmony
A black kitchen island stands in front of white sliding doors, creating a beautiful color contrast. The back wall of the cabinet and the shelves are also black. In this room, two styles work together. Modern elements such as bar stools, the hood above the kitchen island, the iMac and other equipment are harmoniously combined with traditional doors and decorative profiles. The classic charm of the Parisian apartment has been preserved.
