The Fragiles project redefines lighting as conceptual art. Modern lighting is combined with sculptural form and innovative technology.
Modern lighting with a sculptural aspect

Today, modern lighting is much more than a practical addition to an interior. It often has a sculptural presence and can become part of a room's decor. Working with that idea, Italian designer Davide G Aquini created a floor lamp from cement, stucco, metal, and integrated LED light. A metal frame protects the cement forms. The process is deceptively simple: balloons are coated with cement and stucco, left to dry, and then deflated. The result is a series of unique shell-like sculptures. LED lights are built into the base of each form and illuminate it from within. The final effect is fascinating.
Modern lighting in cement and metal

Through this creative use of cement and stucco, the designer explores the contrast between fragile mineral shells and a stable metal structure. The handmade fixtures are manufactured in Italy and belong to the collection of the young designer Davide G Aquini. He began his career with furniture, especially pieces made of wood, and his modern Italian accents quickly helped him establish a name in furniture design. Over time, he started experimenting with different shapes and materials, so combinations of metal and wood appeared more often in his collections. A few years ago, he began creating modern lighting for private residences. Influenced by minimalism, he decided to build a lamp from unusual materials. The result is The Fragiles Lights, shown in the gallery below.
