This modern concrete flat-roof house, known as Bunker House, offers a peaceful retreat tucked away from prying eyes. Built in 2011 in a suburb of La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina, the house covers 286 m2. It embraces the surrounding landscape while creating a strong sense of privacy and security.

Behind massive concrete walls is a comfortable place for calm and relaxation. The flat-roof house has a contemporary character. The interior includes an open-plan kitchen with extensive glazing, strengthening the connection with nature. The cantilevered upper floor creates a sheltered entrance below.

The house is composed of two contrasting elements: a solid, hermetic bunker and an open living area embedded below it. Rigorous geometry defines the rooms, while glass walls improve the dialogue between inside and outside. Together, these elements give the house an expressive sense of movement.
The construction creates an effective play of light
Bunker House was conceived by Estudio Botteri-Connell as a permanent home, with space for children, friends and guests to visit. The light glass volume contrasts with the massive overhanging upper level. As sunlight passes through the spaces between the two volumes, it moves like a sundial and creates striking plays of light. The presence of water strengthens the feeling of calm and shelter.
