It may be bold to fill a small apartment with this much pattern, color and furniture, but designer Lindsay Mens Craig planned it with confidence, and it really works.

The lounge

Behind the sofa sits a tiny black bar that hides an ugly vent cover. Lindsay says hits of black in a room keep the other colors anchored.

You cannot tell from this angle, but the coffee table is actually six feet long. Friends of Lindsay Mens Craig were not sure how furniture of this scale would fit in such a compact area, but the sleek chairs and large wall mirror make the small room shine. Meanwhile, red tulips stand out against a cohesive collection of blue glass vases.

Lindsay turned her hallway into a small gallery of photographs. The bench is perfect for putting on shoes, setting down heavy grocery bags or using as extra seating when guests come over.

Dining area in the living room

Lindsay used a small nook in the living room to create an elegant dining area with glass and metal furniture and clean lines. The round table provides easy circulation, while the light chairs feel less intrusive in the open-concept layout.

Accent wall

During the first week after moving into her new apartment, Lindsay painted 20 cm wide stripes on the wall to create a living-room accent. The dark gray stripes are ideal with the coral tones in the artwork and stool fabric.

Bedroom

Lindsay believes in investing in well-built, beautiful pieces while saving elsewhere. For example, she kept the bedroom carpet and layered sheepskin rugs instead because the dresser was the priority. The room feels larger thanks to the large windows, left without curtains or extra embellishment.

Decorating with color

Lindsay confidently combines intense blue, dark pink accents, bright yellow, shiny brass and sparkle. From blankets and pillows to the pretty jewelry displayed on a whimsical dresser stand, every detail adds color.
