Sometimes dreams come true. Themed rooms are especially popular with children, and this six-year-old client received one of the most imaginative bedrooms around: designer Steve Kuhl of Kuhl Design + Build created a real pirate ship inside the room. Let the photos offer plenty of inspiration for a child’s adventure space.
Create a Pirate-Themed Bedroom

For this children’s room, Kuhl let his imagination run. The result is a rich pirate atmosphere, complete with accessories, play zones, and a ship designed down to the details. The bedroom includes a large indoor slide and an imaginative play world for children and adults alike. A jail cell, clouds, dolphins, sharks, and fish on the walls give the room its storybook charm.
The children’s room: living aboard a pirate ship

Anyone who wants to create a pirate bedroom should think carefully about the details. Steve Kuhl’s project is a strong example of thorough planning; no sketch alone could convey the scale of the ship. From the entrance, the room suggests a sea adventure, with a deck reached by ladder and a suspension bridge. The wooden ship occupies the upper part of the room, with a knotted rope descending through a trapdoor near the helm and lookout into the closet below. Safety was considered as well: parents can watch the children through a small corridor window.
