Bedrooms designed with a sloping roof must use the available space optimally so that the roof slope does not limit the functionality of the room. You may be worried that a sloping roof will take away from your available space and the room structure you are used to but this design feature can be surprisingly flexible – see how here!.!
Design Tips: Bedroom with Sloping Roof
A bedroom is a place of comfort and tranquility but it is also often quite a small room. Usually a bedroom doesn’t have the space for large closets anyway so a sloping roof isn’t going to be the reason that big pieces of furniture don’t work in the room. Small bedrooms can make people feel claustrophobic and hemmed in but the sloped roof design feature allows you to partition off the space you have and make it feel more expansive.
Open Up Your Space
Modular storage is the key to getting this look to work.
Tips for a feeling of ample space in the attic.
Custom furniture or mounting system solutions are recommended for a low-chamber design with a sloping ceiling. The low height of the ceiling should not be underestimated. Comfortable, spacious rooms have large drawers and closet systems configured to fit perfectly to the roof slope and provide ample space for clothes, accessories or books.
Room design with sloping ceiling – with or without color?
If you make your sloping roof white or glossy white you lose out on some of the visual potential. Use bright colors elsewhere in the room to make it appear larger and more open, darker colors create a sense of comfort and security. A splash of color here and there brings out all the charm and advantages of the sloping roof. Use bright colors on the inclined wall to create a sense of coziness, bright accessories here and there make the room feel more varied. Another tip: thick stripes painted on on the roof slope can create an oppressive effect.
Matching and Tasteful Decoration
Good sound insulation in the bedroom is a basic requirement for a good sense of space. The walls must be well insulated and this creates a sense of security.
Light is Important
Under a pitched roof your room is a little closer to the stars. You can make much better use of the available light with skylights.
Reading Lamp Integration
As always when designing areas for resting and relaxation you should think carefully about lighting. Illuminating the whole room or certain areas, such as a reading corner for example, makes the room a joy to be in.
Layout is Effective
Mounting systems can run parallel to the slope of the roof. They can also be used to cover up frosted glass etc.

It’s surprising how even this wedge into the usable space of the room can be beautiful if styled properly. All of these rooms look fantastic, and still seem utterly liveable despite the limitation. In reality, I’d say a sloped roof is something of a designer’s dream!
