A Wooden Tower House Set in the Woods
The wooden house was designed as a sustainable retreat for clients in Michigan, USA. Rather than spreading across the site, the architects organized the home vertically, raising the primary rooms above the hillside. Narrow windows draw daylight into the circulation areas, while the upper living level opens with generous glazing toward the landscape. The compact structure also makes room for cantilevered decks, giving the owners outdoor living space high among the trees.

Inside, the wooden tower house is wrapped in wood, giving the interior a warm, welcoming character. Contemporary furnishings in muted tones create a comfortable lounge that flows into the dining area and compact kitchen. Sliding glass doors connect the living space directly to the balcony, while a small wood stove adds warmth in winter. The bedroom remains deliberately simple, with a double bed, a large wardrobe, a table, and a comfortable chair.
