Situated in Aspen, Colorado, Kendrick Residence by Studio B Architects was designed to respond to its historic Swiss-style neighbor while still presenting a clean, contemporary character.
The house has three levels connected by a floating stair, which also brings light down to the lower level through its open detailing. The public spaces are placed on the upper level, where a large walkway connects two decks and a spiral stair leads from the rear deck to the rooftop terrace.
Because neighboring buildings and trees sit close to the house, privacy was a key concern. The walkway helps shelter the entry level below, while the decks and railings keep the upper floor open to light and views.
The exterior combines modern lines with wood and other materials that help it relate to the surrounding greenery. Large windows fill the interiors with natural light, and the contemporary furnishings give the family home a comfortable, polished atmosphere.
