A recently renovated pool house in North York, Toronto, Canada is defined by its multifunctional character. Depending on the owner’s needs, the living area can quickly become a work studio, guest house, breakfast room, or entertainment space. Its flexibility and high level of comfort open new possibilities for leisure architecture.

Architect John Tong renovated the project in harmony with nature, creating open communication areas while preserving the privacy of the home. The existing residential pavilion, with its stone-clad exterior walls, received a new look with red cedar fins that convey lightness, air, and freedom. The roof was removed, and floor-to-ceiling sliding doors across the full width of the house allow indoor and outdoor spaces to flow seamlessly into one another. At the center of the plot is the elegant oval swimming pool with a fountain and a parallel terrace. Two fireplaces bring warmth inside and outside, making the outdoor space perfect for long summer evenings with friends.

The entire area was designed as a single room of about 90 square meters, with an open floor plan that can adapt as living needs change. To meet that demand, the pool house can be transformed quickly and intelligently. An elegant look with mid-century character defines the interior.

The renovated modern pool house includes an attractive color scheme with interesting contrasts. Wall units in vibrant colors have a positive effect on the mood of the room.
