Casa 7A is a modern flat-roof house in Villeta, Colombia, designed by Arquitectura en Estudio and Natalia Heredia. The house sits on a hill about 1.5 hours west of Bogota and combines a strong sustainability strategy with a high level of comfort. Its modern facade uses wooden sliding and folding doors, allowing the residents to open the house to the landscape or close it for privacy whenever needed.

The house was completed in 2014 and covers 550 square meters. It was built with the help of local workers and uses materials such as concrete, stone, sand, folding wooden doors, and sustainably sourced teak for furniture and flooring. The north-south orientation helps reduce energy use, while the pool receives sun during the day. A solar energy system heats the pool water, and rainwater collected from roof drainage is used for irrigation.

The house is divided into two parts: open outdoor areas and private interiors. The private zone includes three bedrooms, a studio, service areas, and social spaces connected to the terrace and pool. The partially open living area is especially interesting, with small trees growing under the open sky. When the house is not in use, or when the residents want more privacy, the wooden doors and windows can be folded closed. The idea is simple, but the custom wooden facade gives the house its character, protects the residents’ privacy, and helps reduce energy costs in the hot, dry climate.
