Modern architecture manages to surprise and fascinate us again and again. This house with a glass facade and vertical garden on the balconies shows how a modern, comfortable home can be created on a very small footprint.
Minimalist Architecture With A Glass Facade

Japanese architect Ryue Nishizawa completed Garden & House in Tokyo, a modern residence built on an extremely limited site. The narrow plot, located between two taller houses, challenged the architect to create warmth, sunlight, usable space, and privacy at the same time.
A Modern Tokyo House With Balcony Gardens

The solution consists of concrete slabs connected by a steel structure. The street-facing facade uses plenty of glass so daylight can enter the interior. A spiral staircase connects the four floors, and the real highlight is the vertical garden: each level has a balcony with potted evergreen plants that provide privacy. White curtains can also be drawn in the evening.
Inside, walls and floors are painted white and the decor remains extremely economical. The living room contains only a few essential pieces, while even an office area is arranged on a balcony so work can happen in the fresh air.
