A porch is a covered terrace with open sides, attached to the outside of a house and usually running along one or more exterior walls. A wooden veranda deck can be partially enclosed or surrounded by a balustrade.

The original porch dates back to the colonial period and is usually made of wood. Distinctive wooden elements, often richly decorated, are typical. Today, porches are especially common in Australia, the United States, and Sweden. In Germany, the wooden porch is less widespread.
