Anyone who has attempted it knows how challenging it can be to modernize an old building. Restrictions, existing structures, and historic details all require care. With imagination and expert planning, however, it is possible to renovate an old house and give it a fresh contemporary character. In this project in England, DOS Architects transformed an older building into a bright, comfortable family home.
Renovating an Old House With More Light

The clients wanted to update their old house while keeping it warm and welcoming. The facade was restored and painted white, while larger windows and roof glazing brought more daylight into the interior. The kitchen and living areas were reorganized to create a brighter, more spacious home that opens toward the garden. White walls visually connect the different levels and provide a calm backdrop for eclectic furniture and art.
Modernizing an Old House With Eclectic Decor

DOS Architects combined restored pieces with colorful contemporary furniture. A red leather chair adds character to the minimalist living room, posters decorate the hallway, and modern art brings energy to the white kitchen shelves. Strong color accents, including a blue sofa and a bold pink bed, give the renovated house a personal and lively atmosphere.
