House G is a barn conversion by Maxwan Architects + Urbanists. Completed in 2007 in Geldermalsen, the Netherlands, it sits on a two-hectare plot bordering the river Linge. The renovated house with a gable roof is now a comfortable home designed for year-round living.

The clients had bought an old barn and wanted to turn it into a place to live, work, and relax. Their wish was for a large kitchen and living room where the family could gather, entertain friends, and host wine tastings for customers.

The previous owners had extended the high barn by 10 meters over two floors. Maxwan reorganized the layout to make better use of the available space. The facade openings were too small, poorly placed, or visually disconnected from the landscape, so they were redesigned to improve the relationship between the house and its surroundings.

Large windows create a strong connection with the landscape outside. A slit in the roof brings generous daylight into the house. On the ground floor, the living room, kitchen, and dining area are arranged around a central fireplace. Upstairs, a comfortable lounge enjoys views of the countryside. Gray accents, the fireplace, and exposed beams give the interior its calm rustic character.
