JW Construction was entrusted with the task of restoring an old house in Cambridge, MA. The client wanted a framework that felt modern yet comfortable. The open living space on the ground floor was painted entirely in snow white, as was the furniture. The kitchen counter, the built-in wall unit, and the fireplace area are all white. This purist color is the perfect backdrop for red accents and makes them stand out even more. Two red pendant lamps, decorative pillows, and layered rugs visually connect the different areas. Simple, and perhaps for exactly that reason stylish, is how the final result looks. The house is a perfect example for everyone who loves Scandinavian living and is looking for interior design inspiration.

Scandinavian living – 3 important principles of furnishing

If you also want to try Scandinavian style, you should follow these three planning principles:

– Color scheme – walls, ceilings, and floors are white or finished with light laminate. Splashes of red, blue, or yellow make the interior look livable. The main color focus often comes from the floor, especially colorful rugs. Furniture is painted white or kept in the natural color of wood. Surfaces are matte, and gloss is almost completely avoided.

– Materials – wood, glass, and metal. Stone is used very sparingly.

– Furniture – furniture is simple. Three-legged tables and chairs, sofas with two upholstered seats, and self-assembly shelving systems are among the most popular pieces.
