02/11/2012 – The Graffiti Cafe , designed by the young Studio Mode from Sofia, won two awards at the recent Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in London, where it was selected in the two categories in which it participated: best bar in Europe and best bar in the world.
The best bar in the world is located inside a design hotel in Varna, a city known as the “pearl of the Black Sea.” Beyond the celebratory nickname, Varna is Bulgaria’s third-largest city and a growing tourist and shopping center.
The real challenge was to solve all the issues related to ventilation and acoustics while creating a highly distinctive interior, with a new lesson from Escher in the field of decoration and interior design.
The result is a fashionable interior that combines well-known design pieces with elements created specifically for the project, alternating white with the colors of untreated natural wood. The artistic component was arranged so the overall space deliberately creates a link with the contemporary art gallery located on the top floor of the building.
Other award winners included Café Kureon by Kengo Kuma (winner for Asia) and Las Piedras Fasano by Isay Weinfeld (for Central and South America).
