Registration opened for the Furniture Design Award 2015 (FDA), a SingaPlural project that invited designers to explore new ideas in furniture and present original work.
The winning entries were to be showcased at SingaPlural 2015 – Celebrating Design, held alongside the International Furniture Fair Singapore / ASEAN Furniture Show, The Décor Show and Hospitality 360°.

Categories
The award included two categories: Designers and Students. Both categories required original, unpublished furniture concepts submitted by individual participants.
Submission Requirements
- Each participant could submit up to three entries.
- Submissions had to include a design concept, images or visualized sketches, and a description of up to 300 words.
- The submitted file had to be an Adobe PDF, no more than two A4 pages, with a maximum file size of 1.3 MB.
- Participants were asked not to include their name or other identifying details in the submission file.
Fees
For designers, the participation fee was SGD30 for local and locally based designers, and USD40 for international designers. For students, the fee was SGD10 for students from local arts and design institutions, and USD15 for students from international institutions. Fees were non-refundable and included 7% GST where applicable.
Judging
Entries were judged on innovation, marketability, functionality, and environmental considerations. Fifteen entries were to be shortlisted for preliminary judging. Semi-finalists were required to present scaled models, while finalists had to produce prototypes for display at the Singapore Expo during International Furniture Fair Singapore 2015 / 31st ASEAN Furniture Show.
Prizes
The Designers category Grand Award offered SGD10,000, a certificate, a trophy, and a 12 sqm booth space in PLATFORM 2015. The Students category Grand Award offered SGD6,000, a certificate, a trophy, and the same booth space. Honourable Mention, Merit, and Best Use of Material awards were also planned.
Deadline
All entries and payment submissions had to reach SFIC by 11:59 pm Singapore Time on 1 September 2015.
