David Ashen of dash design created the lobby interiors for the new Baronette Renaissance Hotel in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. The lobby has a modern design inspired by 20th-century American modernism. Ashen completely renovated the spacious hotel lobby and divided it into several zones, offering places where small groups or individual guests can meet, relax, or spend time comfortably.

The heart of the lobby is a wall covered with black stone slabs. The overlapping plates and slightly reflective surface create an attractive, interesting pattern. A fireplace set into the wall, paired with a glass pane, creates a striking contrast between the warmth of the fire and the coolness of the stone. Materials such as steel, glass, and wood, used throughout the modern lobby design, reveal their natural beauty and work together harmoniously to reinterpret modernist traditions.

The window lines on both sides of the hotel room and the artworks on the walls, organized by Paige Powell, add dynamism to the space. They express the strong creative energy of the Detroit area, even during periods when the future has not always seemed bright. The installation suggests that some of the most interesting artistic expressions can emerge from difficult moments.
