Energy prices continue to rise, so many people are asking how they can save money and reduce heating costs during another cold winter. There are several simple steps you can take so you use less gas for heating.
Reduce heating costs and prevent mold damage with proper ventilation

On the one hand, it makes sense to compare prices at gas.preisvergleich.de/info/2/gaspreise, check your current contract and see whether a better provider is available in your region. You should also review your heating habits so you do not waste energy unnecessarily.
Some people do not ventilate enough in winter because they fear that warm air will escape and heating costs will rise. However, proper ventilation lets excess moisture move from inside to outside without cooling rooms too much. Air the home at least twice a day, ideally three or four times. To exchange the air properly, open windows wide in several rooms to create a draft, and leave the doors open for this purpose. Five to ten minutes is enough to achieve the desired effect.
If you do not air the rooms enough during the cold months, moisture can accumulate in the walls and mold can form. This can lead to health problems, especially for children and older people.
Reduce your heating costs – lower temperatures in the living room

Often, rooms are overheated. You do not need to heat them so much that you can sit in front of the TV in a T-shirt in winter. Around 20 degrees Celsius is enough for the body to feel comfortable. In the bedroom, we often need less heat; an average temperature of 16 degrees helps support restful sleep.
If you go on vacation, you should turn the gas heating down to save on heating costs. It does not have to be 20 degrees Celsius throughout the house during this period; you only need a base temperature that prevents water pipes from bursting during a sudden cold snap. If you do not want to return to cold living spaces after the holidays, ask neighbors or family members to turn the heating back up a day before you come home.
