Contemporary art can be presented in many different ways, and light is one of the most atmospheric. The design studio Graypants created Cloud, a sculptural light installation inspired by the shape of a floating cloud. Designed as a site-specific lobby installation in the Bay Area, the piece appears to hover in the air while filling the space with a soft, luminous presence.

Architects and designers Jonathan Junker and Seth Grizzle founded Graypants, a studio with roots in Seattle and Amsterdam. The Cloud light installation is one of the studio’s most memorable projects, combining an expressive visual effect with an inventive approach to materials and construction.

The Cloud installation is composed of many illuminated spherical elements arranged on a flexible suspended structure. Together they form a glowing sculptural volume that seems to shine from within. The result draws attention even from a distance and gives the lobby a magical, almost weightless quality.
