Every child dreams of having a tree house – a private realm for play and a quiet place for reading. If you want to build a tree house for children in your own garden, there are several things to consider. That is why we have put together a few tips to help you with this exciting project.
Build a tree house for children – choose a location

First, look around the garden for the perfect tree. Oak, maple, beech, pine or a strong old apple tree with a thick trunk, at least 40 cm in diameter, can be suitable. Make sure the tree has many large branches that are still relatively close to the ground. The platform should be about one meter above the ground and secured with railings around 75 cm high. The distance between bars should be no more than 10 cm. The entrance stairway is especially important for avoiding accidents when children run up and down. Build a stable staircase or attach a ladder with a railing. Create a soft landing by covering the ground beneath the ladder with gravel, sand or mulch.
Building a tree house for children – good craftsmanship is important

The floor should be made from solid hardwood boards that are sturdy and durable. Larch wood is an ideal option for construction. All wooden boards should be cut to size, sanded and finished with wood stain. The platform can be mounted between two trees or on a single tree, but it should then be secured with stilts. Once the floor and walls are finished, the roof is easy to build. It does not have to be a solid roof; sometimes a light fabric cover and the dense treetop are enough. Add fun play features such as tire swings, rope bridges and slides to increase the fun. Let the children decorate the house themselves.
