Rogner Bad Blumau, in Styria, Austria, is the spa and hotel complex designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. It is a colourful world of thermal water, gardens, rounded forms, planted roofs, and golden domes.
Hundertwasser imagined architecture as a total work of art, and Bad Blumau follows that idea closely. The buildings seem to grow out of the surrounding hills rather than sit on top of them.
The complex is set in the thermal region of Styria, where water, landscape, and architecture are treated as one experience. There are no rigid straight lines here; instead, the facades, columns, windows, and roofs create a patchwork of colour and movement.
The spa is centred on indoor and outdoor thermal bathing, including the Vulkania spring. The mineral-rich water and playful architecture give the place its unusual mix of relaxation and fantasy.
For Hundertwasser, happiness in architecture came from colour, irregularity, nature, and the refusal of sterile repetition. Bad Blumau is one of the clearest expressions of that belief.
