If your potted plants are growing well, there will still come a time when they need to be repotted. Follow a few simple rules to make the process go smoothly. Today we share the most important tips for transplanting flowers and houseplants at home.
Choose the right flowerpot before transplanting

First, you need a new pot that is only 3-5 cm larger than the old one. If the pot is too large, the plant may not absorb the soil substrate immediately, which can have a negative effect on the flower. Some species, however, grow roots very quickly, including dieffenbachia and monstera. When transplanting flowers like these, a larger pot is usually not a problem.

The second thing to consider is good drainage in the pot. Excess water needs to drain properly. Add a drainage layer, using pieces of ceramic, perlite, or charcoal, for example. The soil should be slightly moist and chosen for the needs of your houseplants.
Water sparingly after transplanting flowers

Third, do not place the plants in full sun immediately after transplanting. Even if you were careful, the tiny root hairs can be damaged during repotting, and these help the flower absorb food and water from the soil. Root hairs need at least 10 days to recover. During this time, avoid heavy watering; instead, keep the plants in a bright, warm place and mist them with water.
Repot houseplants and fertilize

Fourth, newly transplanted flowers do not need fertilizer right away. The fresh soil already contains enough nutrients for normal growth. These should be sufficient for 2-3 months; after that, you can begin enriching the soil with compost or fertilizer.
Repot the plants properly

Fifth, immediately after transplanting, spray the flowers with warm water and place them in a shady spot. Voila, you are done. It is simple and easy, isn’t it?
