The Bed That Embraces You: Andromeda

Italian designers Federico and Danilo Bergese focused their creativity on an object that is both intimate and essential: the bed. In collaboration with Gianfranco Coltella, known for the glass sculptures of Meduse, they created Andromeda, a bed designed to embrace the person who rests within it.

Presented during Fuori Salone 2013 at the Temporary Museum for New Design in Milan, Andromeda was shown under the Floema brand. The project brings together Italian craftsmanship, wood and glass in a structure with sinuous forms.

The curved wooden frame wraps around the bed like an inverted arch, while glass elements are integrated into the structure like crystal stalactites. Discreet LED lighting gives the object a soft, atmospheric presence without overwhelming the natural warmth of the materials.

Andromeda is therefore both decorative and functional: a sculptural bed in which wood, glass and light work together to create a protective, almost dreamlike space.
