Tyrol: Birth of the Ice-Q, the Gourmet Restaurant at 3000 meters

10/12/2013 – Sölden in Tirol, Ice–Q is a new concept restaurant, directly on the top of the ski area Gaislachkogl at an altitude of 3048 meters. The design of the studio Obermoser is unique and avant-garde in architecture, wine and food. A suspension bridge connects to the highest points of the mountain.

The new retreat is easily and directly accessible with a gondola to Gaislachkogl and are both close to recently opened. It is considered to be the most innovative project of the recent time. A sculpture made of glass, resembling ice-cubes stacked on top of each other, welcomes the stunning views over the fields to the glacier and the views of the mountains. A large overhang of the elements and the spacious terraces invite you to relax. The roof of the ice-Q is to be used as a platform for the overview for the free access, which is associated with the summit of the Gaislachkogl in the vicinity and is easily accessible by a suspension bridge.

The construction was carried out on very acidic soil and is characterized by extreme temperatures. In this context, the foundations of the furniture, which allows the structure adapted better to changes in the temperature were built. The same technique was also used to the construction of the gondola mountain station.

In a discreet atmosphere, decoration is dominated by natural materials of the region such as the stone, from the same glacier, and solid wood used for the coating of wall, floor and ceiling.
